In case anyone else is wondering, as I was:This does NOT need to be fitted down into a hole on your deck. The bottom is flat, without a lip. It simply covers a hole in your deck floor or elsewhere by screwing it down over the hole. We used it to cover a hole from a boat seat in a spot where we no longer wanted a seat. This was perfect for our needs.
